Q&A Perou
What is it like working with Levi’s® on its European Mirror Mirror Curve ID events?
I am delighted to be involved in such an exciting project working with a global iconic brand.
What advice can you give girls attending the Levi’s® European Mirror Mirror Curve ID events who have never had a professional photo taken?
Relax. Have fun. The more you give the more you get.
What are your favourite Levi’s® jeans to wear?
I LOVE my Levi’s® 505s.
Tell us about yourself, how did you get into photography?
I stumbled into photography but I was keen and it turns out it’s all I’m good for. After some time at university in London studying photography and film, I landed a job at Dazed and Confused magazine and the rest is history, I have been shooting worldwide since 1995.
Where does your creative inspiration come from?
Literally EVERYTHING inspires me: films, television, books, news, people, and cartoons. I soak it all up.
I write down my dreams as they give me so many ideas for shots.
Is there anyone or anything that you would love to photograph but haven’t been able to yet?
I still haven’t shot Madonna but don’t know if that will happen. I like photographing anyone, they don’t have to be famous they just have to be friendly.
Tell us about your role as a director. How does this compare to being a photographer?
Shooting films and videos is completely different, photography is an autonomous pursuit that you can do on your own, film and videos need a full crew and it’s more about collaboration.
I still think in stills. Most photographers are rebranding themselves as directors but writers make better directors because they think about the story. Photographers are better at being DOP’s (directors of photography aka camera/lighting people).
How would you describe your fashion style?
Show off. I like to wear the clothes other people don’t want to be seen in.
What is your favourite fashion era and why?
Right now because I’m living in the moment or next year because I’m looking to the future. I don’t mind old clothes thrown in for good measure but I’m not interested in living in the past.
What ambition are you yet to achieve in life?
To be able to support my family by producing photographs for my own gallery.
